Sociedad Portuaria Puerto Bahia has a close commitment with the protection of the environment. For this reason, through its operations and the initiatives of the foundation consistently manage to protect our natural resources and the area where is located the terminal.
Particularly in its operations the Port meets all standards required by the World Bank,(partner of the project), surpassing the requirements of the Environmental Licensing Authority (ANLA) and other entities in the country.
Additionally, in the liquid transfer processes, the fully automated transfer system allows operation with a minimum margin of error, therefore, ensure the health of the environment where the work of the port are made.
Likewise, in its commitment to environmental sustainability, SPPB offset GHG emissions with tanks equipped with a system of floating roof tanks for storing hydrocarbons, conformed by a dome and a floating membrane to minimize VOC emissions, and security cameras powered by solar panels as alternative energy pilot project. In addition, for the conservation of biodiversity, SPPB makes monitoring of biotic communities, besides of ensuring the protection of Ciénaga Honda in its area of influence. Likewise, the community organization «Growers Association of Mangrove of Pasacaballos» planted 107.5 hectares of mangrove and 90 more of timber of native dry forest, such as oak, using organic fertilizers.
In addition to these initiatives each one of the members of Puerto Bahía works to maintain a clean terminal, where is promoted practices of recycling and proper waste disposal.
